About Lee Sutterfield

Previous to his role at SecureLogix, Mr. Sutterfield was an executive at WheelGroup (acquired by Cisco Systems in 1998), and an executive agent for the United States Air Force, where he helped pioneer the development of the USAF’s computer security assessment program during the mid-1990s. Sutterfield’s distinguished public and private sector career includes the following accomplishments:

  • 1983-1986: Authored key intelligence reports depicting the coming network-based cybersecurity issues facing the Air Force and U.S. government. Sutterfield briefed these findings across all branches of government at the most executive levels, leading to his reassignment to the Air Force Cryptologic Support Center, Electronic Security Command, San Antonio, Texas to help build the newly assigned mission of Executive Agent for the Air Force Computer Security Program.
  • 1986-1995: Authored Concept of Operations for and helped build the Air Force Computer Security Assessment Program (CSAP). The CSAP included the formation of the Air Force Computer Emergency Response Team, which was one of the first three such organizations established as a result of the “Morris Worm Incident.” The CSAP also established the Countermeasure Engineering Team, which helped Scotland Yard break the “Datastream” Hacker case and several other early notorious hacker events. The CSAP also established the Electronic Security Engineering and Survey teams, which pioneered the concept of enterprise-wide, corporate-level Security Posture Assessment. Sutterfield also initiated the development of the Automated Security Incident Measurement System (ASIMS), which was the first attempt to build an enterprise-wide, near-real-time intrusion detection capability.
  • 1995-1998: Served as chief instigator, co-founder, chairman of the board and executive vice president of strategy for WheelGroup Corporation. WheelGroup pioneered the commercial development of true enterprise-wide, real-time intrusion detection technology via their “NetRanger” product line. Cisco Systems bought WheelGroup in March of 1998. The financial success of WheelGroup opened the doors for many others of talent in the San Antonio cybersecurity community to venture out to the commercial world in the following years.
  • 1999 – Present: Serves as co-founder, chairman and president of SecureLogix Corporation. SecureLogix has pioneered the solution to the cyber threats associated with real-time services such as voice, instant messaging and video services. Their products have been deployed worldwide for major U.S. Government agencies, including all of the U.S. Air Force, Army and Marines. They have numerous customers in utility, medical and retail markets, and SecureLogix is also a key cybersecurity resource for the financial markets, including some of the largest banks in the U.S.
